June 7 Petersburg-No beaconing yet

We took the ferry from Wrangell yesterday and are now in Petersburg. This passage took us through what is called the Wrangell narrows. This passage is what keeps the cruise ships out of Petersburg. It was so narrow at times and was so twisty that we aren't sure how the ferry made it up here. It was just gorgeous. We saw otters swimming in the Sound. We have put pictures of the Sound and Petersburg on here.
This town was originally settled by the Norwegians and has a different feel to it from the other areas we have visited. It has a higher income base here. the town is very pretty with lots of the buildings decorated with painted  flowers etc. on the shutters, the trim around windows, etc. We spent last night 14 miles outside of town in a U.S.F.S. campground deep in the woods. Pretty with the Ohmer Creek running nearby. Unfortunately the Salmon run is low so far this season and they have closed it off to Sport fishing so Garry was disappointed.
We have done some shopping today. There is a wonderful Quilt/fabric shop here so of course I had to buy. We are in the library again as we write this. We have met up with our sailing friends John and Mary and are meeting them on their boat later for dinner. We had the beaconing going again, but no luck. We will try at each stop, and hope to get a connection soon.

Looks like a true wilderness! Sleep sound. The USCG is doing a great job in the Gulf!
